The Face of the Lord

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High: for you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare his path.” (From the Canticle of Zechariah, Luke 1)

I have read this canticle many times but have not noticed Christ being called ‘the face of the Lord’ before. Isn’t that a beautiful thought? ‘When you have seen me, you have seen the Father,’ yes, but thinking of the ‘face,’ the shining, loving, beautiful FACE of God walking the earth somehow seems so personal. Thinking of His eyes and mouth that gazed and smiled and reflected love… and thinking of God putting His ‘face’ here for us to experience in a real, physical, undeniable way is more than overwhelming.

"Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full at His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace." (Words and music, Helen H. Lemmel, 1922)

Ohe, indeed, sweet sister; how this is so awesome. HIS eyes are so blue in that picture that it seems we can see straight through them into our Father GOD.

That's one reason I liked this rendition so well... even though I know it is VERY unlikely Jesus had baby blues. :)
