Holy Hush

I am often amazed at the palpable nature of God's presence in an empty church.

Sometimes I rush through on my way from one place to another and feel the Lord's presence like a cloak when I enter.

The candle signaling His presence in the tabernacle flickers through red glass - a reminder that the Lord is there - but it is not necessary, as He can be felt. A thick hush, a full silence, is heavy in the room.

Many notice this their first time entering a Catholic Church - and the Holy Presence invites them to stay.

When the Blessed Sacrament is exposed and my gaze falls upon Him, I marvel that the Author of the scriptures, the One who choreographed all of creation, is there in the room before me. Amazing.

I wonder, is this how the Jews felt when the Shekina Glory of God was present and with them in the Ark of the Covenant? It was only to the High Priest - and only once a year - that God revealed Himself. Now He reveals Himself to all. The veil between God and man was rent through Christ, the God-man, and now I sit before Him.

sister faustina was dissapointed after viewing the very first painting of divine mercy image .
she said it didn't look anything like jesus and complained to jesus that the mercy image '' i trust in you '' didn't look anything like him.
jesus responded to faustina '' the beauty of my glory that you see does not lie in the strokes of a paintbrush but in the presence ( holy hush - quiet ) of my glory ! ''
thankyou esther for reminding us that we need to look through the eyes of our soul to see jesus .
sister faustina said that one can only hear jesus when one is recollected ......... recollection requires silence / stillness and above all '' holy hush '' quietness!

Thank you for sharing what Jesus said to St. Faustina - how beautiful, how accessible to all of us! It is interesting that I felt compelled to include the words to The Chaplet of Divine Mercy after writing this. The Spirit reveals Himself in quiet whispers...
God bless you and thanks for visiting!

Thank you for reminding us of God's presence among us. Our churches are much more then brick buildings. I to, feel Him as I enter the church. There were times in my past when I could not bring myself to enter Church, because I knew I had let Him down and could not face Him. Sometimes, I would just sit in the very back pew.He said He would be with us always and He is. We are blessed as Catholics, to be able to go to Him, whenever we want to.I know many non-Catholics who have felt His presence at our Churches also. Thank you for sharing.

Renee, I'm glad church is home for you now. What you describe is one reason I love the sacrament of confession so much - cleansing, grace, restoration. And isn't it wonderful to receive Him in the Eucharist!? Many blessings to you and thanks for posting.
